Sydney, Australia, 09/05/08 - Mint Wireless (ASX: MNW) has won the 2008 Consensus Software Award for excellence in software development in Australia and New Zealand. The award was for Mint's Portable Payment System, which enables any business to process payments, such as credit cards, invoice on the spot with a smartphone (i.e. a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile), centrally report on all sales and synchronise with accounting software.
Mint was chosen from 24 finalists, and accepted the award from opposition leader, Dr. Brendan Nelson at last night's Gala event in Sydney. Now in their ninth year, the Consensus Software Awards identify the most innovative software designed and developed in Australia and New Zealand and were sponsored by IBM and Microsoft.
The Awards are the only independently judged software award in Australia and New Zealand, using a panel of over 50 independent business, venture capital and software industry experts. The three main criteria for winning this award are Innovation, Performance and Market potential. Over the last 8 years many of the Consensus Software Awards winners have gone on to perform extremely well in overseas markets.
Mint's CEO, Alex Teoh, said that winning the award is a testament to the talent and commitment of the Mint team, "We are obviously very pleased to have won the 2008 Consensus award following a competitive judging process. The recognition of our software as a high performing, innovative product will help in further growing our business and serve to strengthen the regional profile of Australian and New Zealand software developers.
"As one of the primary criteria was the potential for market potential, this is an endorsement of the significant growth opportunities for our mobile payment application amongst Australian businesses," said Mr. Teoh.
"The portable payment market continues to grow as SME's and larger businesses recognise the power of a mobile payment and invoicing solution for speeding up cashflow and halving admin time. With a slowing economic environment, cash flow becomes critical for most businesses," added Mr. Teoh.
Julian Day, Managing Director of Consensus, added: "Payment and billing systems are one of the top most applications of mobility in business, and Mint is a flag bearer in this space. Combining the technological innovativeness from the mobile space together with business innovativeness of the billing and invoicing space reflects on the acumen of Mint leadership and results in a richly deserved award."
"The judging panel was impressed by the Mint system in that it makes innovative use of mobile technologies to enable portable payment and invoicing; making Mint a highly attractive product as well as a company," added Mr. Day.
In addition to IBM and Microsoft; the Consensus Software Awards are endorsed and supported by peak bodies: Austrade, NZ Trade & Enterprise, the Australian Computer Society and the NZ Computer Society.
