Mint increases donations for charity

11 April 2008 - Mint portable payment system is enabling charities such as Life Changing Experiences to take credit card donations using a mobile phone to increase by up to 30% - the amounts raised on the day at charitable events.

Jessica Brown, founder and CEO of Life Changing Experiences commented: "Mint is a technological breakthrough and a logical solution for fundraising. It addresses the increasingly complex accountability requirements of the not for profit sector.

"For organisations such as ours who rely heavily on our own fundraising initiatives, having an efficient and simple solution for the collection of funds is crucial. Mint enables our volunteers to 'roam'; it makes it easy for supporters to give generously via cash or credit cards; and it allows us to provide DGR receipts on the spot.

"Mint Wireless provides us with clear and accurate records for our annual audit. Time consuming administration is completely eliminated, and our volunteers are free to spend their valuable time achieving our objectives within the Australian Community."

Mint Wireless has already generously supported the Life Changing Experiences Foundation at two fundraising events and we have witnessed first-hand the effectiveness of the Mint Wireless solution," Jessica added.

At a recent event on 10th April 2008, $3,100 revenue was raised using the Mint system, as attendees were able to pay via credit card rather than donating solely with cash.

Mint's software is installed on Blackberry or Windows Mobile PDA phones and enables charities and businesses to process and record all payments, whether credit card, cash, or cheque.

Receipts can be printed on the spot using Mint's palm-size card reader and printer, ensuring that a donor gets their DGR receipt instantly (they can also be emailed instantly). In addition, every transaction taken with the PDA phones is recorded online in their Mint admin system and downloaded into spreadsheet or accounting software, so reconciliation after an event takes just a few minutes.

Mint Wireless CEO, Alex Teoh, commented "We're really happy to support great causes such as LCE. With small PDA phones at charity events staff can wander and approach people directly for donations - offering them the convenience of paying by credit card on the night means they are likely to donate more as well."

LCEF and the SISTER2sister Program going National

The success of the Sydney SISTER2sister Program over the last four years has brought numerous requests from all around Australia and as far afield as New Zealand for the program.

In planning for the 2009 program and assessing our fundraising strategies, the Life Changing Experiences Foundation believes we can take the program national for 2009. For the success of a program we rely on the support of a large network of women who would either become a Big Sister or join the local fundraising arm of the Foundation - SASSI Melbourne.

Melbourne is our first step in this national strategy as several of our current corporate sponsors are based here and we already have a growing database in the area which will enable the SASSI and the SISTER2sister Program to get started with minimal resources.

Going national is critical to the SISTER2sister Program as the very funding that we are dependent on comes from national based corporations and will hopefully become more accessible in a similar manner to the effect the SISTER2sister Program has on the local communities.

We expect to start recruiting both Big and Little Sisters in the Melbourne area after August 2008 and to start small, much like the program began in Sydney, with perhaps 10 matches. An information day will be scheduled for Melbourne sometime mid-2008. It is expected that the 2009 Melbourne SISTER2sister Program would combine with the Sydney Program for the 2009 Butterfly Bootcamp and the 2009 Graduation. The first year of the Melbourne SISTER2sister Program will likely require funding or contributions in kind from airlines and car hire in particular to minimise the cost that the Foundation will incur in getting the Melbourne SISTER2sister Program started.
